You can now register for the following free workshop sponsored by SLRS.
WHAT: Conflict Resolution: with Personality, presented by Calista Choate, QAST V/V, NIC
“This is what you said”
“Yes, but this is what I meant”
“If that’s what you meant, you should have said it.”
“I shouldn’t have to speak the obvious to intelligent people”
As interpreters, and yes even as humans, we see and experience conflict daily. Since no one was born with the innate ability to confront conflicts effectively, we need practice and patience in order to gain use of the conflict-resolution tool. While there are many conflict-resolution models, this workshop will provide an overview and specific personality resolution differences. We will discuss the differences in style that lead to misunderstanding, miscommunication, and resentment. Using insight from the 16 personality types of the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) we can recognize that seeing someone as old-fashioned or not wanting to keep up with change, may be met from the other perspective as, “don’t fix what ain’t broken!” Taken from the book, “Type Talk at Work” by Otto Kroeger, Janet M. Thuesen, and Hile Rutledge. The RID Code of Professional Conduct (CPC) will be used to discuss ethical dilemmas related to conflict.
